Lamy - No Design Writes Better...

Limited and/or Special Edition Lamy Products:

Up until now, C. Josef Lamy, GmbH hasn't really released many limited editions (only 2?) and has begun to leverage the special editions category for collectors and customers interested in less common color or material combinations in the models they have and/or use. Though some companies release/sell more than some of the others, most writing instrument makers produce limited and/or special edition models, through-out the year in order to accomidate the desires of their higher-end customers/collectors. For each company, this usually consists or predetermining ahead of time, the design details, color, production numbers and even distribution issues on each edition, due to be made and sold in the upcoming year or so.

Those that are interested in these special releases, have only to wait and have the increased financial resources reserved that are needed to purchase a LE or SE, as they generally can cost much more than their regular production models. The distinctions and differences between the limited and special editions can be quite ambiguous and confusing. Generally, some of the differences and various characteristics, of each type of release (LE or SE) are listed below:

Special Editions: True special editions, in the writing instruments arena, are instruments whose production run is restricted in some way, such as by only making one special color, size, pattern, or merely making them specifically for a particular vendor or seller. A decent example of a special edition would be Lamy's distinctively colored Safari, like the “Pink” model that came out not too long ago. Other examples are the Blackwood, Taxus and Titanium versions of the Lamy 2000 ballpoint, and the Lamy Swift Rubinblack.

Limited Editions: On the other hand, limited edition's production runs are usually restricted or limited even more so than special editions. LE's production quantity almost always is for a set, predetermined number of finished pieces, which are sometimes individually numbered (imprinted or engraved) with both it's individual number and the total number of units in the production run. Though not individually numbered, an example of a limited edition would be Dr. Manfred Lamy's creation: the Lamy 2006 Ceramicon Limited Edition that celebrated Lamy Design and the Lamy 2000's 40th anniversary, where only 7500 of them were ever produced. Another true Limited Edition of Lamy's was the Edition 2000, produced in honor of the millenium and it's Lamy 2000 namesake, it's production run was limited to 5000 units.
