Lamy - No Design Writes Better...

About Us:

Greetings, welcome to our site about previous, out-of-production, and current Lamy writing instruments. At present, we are Stephen Proctor and Robert Johnson, vintage and modern writing instrument collectors with a special place in our hearts (and our collections) for older, vintage C. Josef Lamy GmbH’s fountain pens. Both Robert and I have had some difficulty locating information on Orthos, Artus and early Lamy fountain pens. We determined that there is only one thing we can really do about it. Create our own repository for others, so when someone picks up or comes across an older Lamy product, they have a place to come to for more information on it.

We are completely committed to this project/effort and its total success. Unfortunately, our financial resources for research are extremely limited. It would be great if we could just go out and purchase tons of various model pens, every one of the books that mention Lamy products, and compensate subject-matter experts for their time and information, but it is just not possible at this time. In light of that, we also have chosen for now, not to include advertising on these pages, though we may have to revisit that in the future in order to help pay for server space and other bills. Of course we will take virtually any and all types of help .

Preferably, in the near future, there will be others that will add their name here. This is not just our project/effort, we would love to add someone else here as long as the effort remains uncorrupted and a not-for-profit endeavor. Very Best Regards, Stephen P.

More About This Effort:

This effort was born out of frustration. We have either come across or obtained an older Lamy product only to find practically nothing about it anywhere on the Web or otherwise. Apparently, Lamy remains forward looking towards the future and design focused and is totally uninterested in the past and past products. With this in mind, I thought that it would be cool to create a place on the Web that could potentially address this lack of information. Fortunately, I’ve already found another collector that shares my frustration and commitment to doing something about it here, Robert. Unfortunately, we are not by any means, experts on things Lamy… (we’ve only collected Lamy for a couple of years) and remain desperate for more detailed information to add to our site, especially model specific type data, reviews and pictures… can you help us?

Currently we are working on contacting and connecting with some of the Lamy experts out there, especially in Germany and other parts of Europe, in hopes that they will contribute information, observations, pictures, and their insight into C. Josef Lamy GmbH and their products, both vintage and modern. So if you receive a request from us, please think twice before discarding or deleting it without first replying to it.

Other methods of information gathering are contributions obtained through this site’s web traffic, various forums, bulletin-boards messages and various types of referrals. It also would be real helpful if we could locate other collectors, like ourselves, that collect Lamy to pitch in and donate content for these pages.

It would be extremely beneficial if Lamy or someone at Lamy would contribute to this effort. We do not see this happening since Lamy is known for ignoring its previous, out-of-production models, especially those that were produced before the 1966 release of the Lamy 2000, Dr. Manfred Lamy’s and Gerd A. Müller’s first colabrative product release.

Honoring and Saying “Thank You” To Those That Contributed To This Effort and It's Web Site, So Far:

(top one is most recent)

A very special and heartfelt “thank you” and grateful acknowledgement goes out to Thomas Neureither, from Heidelberg, Germany. His information and knowledge about C. Josef Lamy, GmbH and all of the other Heidelberg area writing instrument manufacturers both past and present, is invaluable to this effort. His kindness and willingness to provide assistance and key points from his personal research, investigations and various interviews with some of the actual people involved in making history is allowing us to go much further and provide much more accurate detail than we could ever have hoped to do without him. Thank you so very much, Thomas! We truly appreciate your helpfulness and above all, your very important and significant contributions.

Just a few short days since this site hit the Internet, and already we are receiving encouraging remarks from a few. One of this effort’s contributors so far is Karl Barndt. If it not for him, I wouldn’t be a Lamy collector or even really recognize the superior attributes that their products possess. Mr. Barndt’s own love for collecting, repairing, restoring, selling and even using, is absolutely contagious. A lot of the model specific information on this site is a result of conversations via email that I’ve had with Karl. Thanks a lot Karl, you are the best!

Thank you Tom Westerich, I knew that I could count on you! A special thanks for your help locating and contacting the experts. With the exception of one of them, these were all new names that you gave me. I will be contacting them individually, and asking for their assistance with content. Please keep up your writing efforts, you have an exceptional insight and practical outlook that any publication should pay handsomely for.

Thank you Robert, I didn’t realize I had made so many type-o mistakes. I guess, it is because I added most of the content all at once and didn’t think to run the spell-checker first, duh! Another thanks for all of the incredible information you gave me on the various models, especially the Artus ones, I’ll be getting it up on the site very soon, once its basic structure is updated.
